Biography

Laura Rovetti is a Toronto-based singer, song-writer, and guitarist whose music seamlessly blends indie pop, alt-rock, folk, and jazz. Her sound feels both immediate and reflective; blending catchy hooks with intricate lyricism, jazz-inflected harmony, and an undercurrent of angst. Much of her music begins alone with her guitar, exploring alternate tunings and voicings, before taking shape through its intentional lyrics and arrangement.

An active performer in Toronto’s music scene, Laura has played at venues including The Rex, The Tapestry, Drom Taberna, and The Rec Room during NXNE (North by Northeast), as well as performing at Nuit Blanche in 2025 with her band, Tessera Collective. She has also been featured on 96.9 Humber Radio, performing live and sharing insights into her songwriting process. Currently, Laura is working on her debut five-track EP, set for release in 2026, while completing a Bachelor’s degree in music for Voice.

In the summer of 2025, Laura joined six other music students to form Tessera Collective as part of the Intercultural and Creative Music Fellowship (ICMF) in partnership with the Aga Khan Museum. Together, they recorded seven songs, a short documentary, and a visual album for their project. Drawing inspiration from the Museum’s art exhibitions, they explored themes of Unity through Multiplicity.

In the band, Laura sang lead and background vocals, played acoustic guitar, and helped shape the music’s emotional and structural direction through lyricism and arrangements.

“The word ‘tessera’ refers to a small piece of glass, tile, or stone used in the creation of mosaics. Like tesserae, we are seven unique individuals with distinct musical and cultural backgrounds — each telling a different story and shaped by different experiences — yet when brought together, we create beautiful art, both literally and metaphorically.” — Laura Rovetti
